Throttle cables pull right out of the switch housing

my throttle cable adjustment is seized, shot some wd40 and let it sit but its not budging. any ideas? would like to avoid buying a new cable.
On the new cables I have put a good coat of grease on the adjusters before covering with the rubber boots. Another maintenance job to do - crack the lock nut just to make sure it moves.
