Default Plate Fell Off in NYC

Has anyone had a plate fall off in NYC or NY and what did you do?

I read on the DMV website to have a police report and form filled out by any officer OR i can write a statement of what happened. The police are not interested in helping me at all, the officer in my precinct basically said no, come back in 4 weeks.

Directly from the DMV website:
  • if the plates were lost, stolen or destroyed in New York State, ask a NY State police agency to complete a 'Certification of Lost License, Permit or Plates' (MV-78B) (this form is only available from law enforcement - it is not available on the DMV website)
  • if the plates were lost, stolen or destroyed outside of NY State, get a report printed on the letterhead of a police agency in the state where the incident happened
If you cannot get a police report, write a statement that includes your plate number and explains why you cannot surrender your NY State plates.

Write the statement and go to DMV. Get it notarized before you go, only because they love to have stuff notarized. Then DMV will either help you out with a new plate or tell you what the next step is.

Gotta ask, how do you lose a license plate??????

HAHAAA as you can see above me the streets are MEAN here. Actually the stock bracket snapped clean off and I might not have noticed for a few days. But it is a custom plate so I am hoping they can give me the same one without any lag.

I will wait for my office notary to return from vacation and let everyone know the result!

If it was a custom plate, expect to receive a generic plate until your custom plate is re-fabricated and mailed to you.

I'm from the city and it happened to me on my gsxr. The plate actually vibrated it self so much it snapped. Went to do a police report at my local precinct and was told to go the the nearest one where I lost it. Explained that i didn't know where and i showed him the pieces that where left of it, he made me wait almost and hr and did it.

Born, raised, and here right now with a motorcycle in lovely Brownsville Brooklyn.

Now him losing the entire plate mount with the plate, that I have seen, never did it, but seen it happen. I took it that he lost only the plate. No worries, carry on it is Friday.
