Primary/Tranny oil change question
I have a 05 1200 custom with only 550 miles on it. Just changed engine oil on it with Mobil 1 20w-50 synthetic. Did not get ownwers manual with bike but with help fromanother internet site was able to change with no trouble. My question is how do you change the primary oil and what kind of oil works best? I know where the drain plug is and read a thread saying the primary/tranny takes 1 quart. Any help or step by step would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

RE: Primary/Tranny oil change question
many people drain it out completely and then using exactly one quart refill through the inspection cover.

RE: Primary/Tranny oil change question
You can use the same Mobil 1 20-50 in the primary/tranny if you want OR better yet Mobil 1 75w-90 Syn Gear Oil. Either are way better than HD oils. Takes exactly 1 quart, fill through the chain inspection cover on left side, 2 screws.

RE: Primary/Tranny oil change question
If you pick up the service manual from a HD dealer or through a website you will have all the information you need to do your own services.I got mine from J&P

Thanks for the help. I think I will use the 20w-50 since I have an extra quart.
