Some rubbing alcohol with maybe some dye in it would leave stain if the valves are leaking. Make sure rocker arms are off before you remove the camcase cover, you could damage the bushings with valves under tension when you remove cover.

A good IPA works better than Coors Light, but it would be a waste of the IPA. Better the Coors.

The #2 cam is pressed together. The bushing in the motor seized and caused the #2 cam to spin so it was out of time when "timed" correctly. That was the whole problem

While you're in the cam box change the oil pump drive gear to a bronze one.

And make sure once the cam cover is back on and you torque down the rocker box you allow sufficient bleed down time before rotating the engine to install and torque the second rocker box.
