The MoCo has a special tool to put the cups in. They use race when referring to the cups for the installation tool.

It’s clean because there were no cups in there to begin with. I was able to knock the top race out. The bottom will not budge. I’m starting to use a chisel to cut it up but it will not move at all.
im assuming the sportsters has cups, a race and bearings.... mine didn’t, although it did have a Honda front end on it...

You're confusing me.

The picture you posted in post #90 showed a very damaged cup (race). The picture you posted in post #99 showed the frame neck with the cups (top cup at least) removed.

What am I missing?

Okay the MoCo seems to use race and cup interchangeably. In the neck will be a cup (race) that the taper roller bearing runs.

1. Front fork stem and lower bracket
2. Seal, lower
3. Bearing cone (2)
4. Bearing cup (2)
5. Seal, upper
6. Front upper bracket
7. Fork stem pinch screw
8. Washer
9. Fork stem bolt
10. Fork stem bolt cap (XL 1200R only)
11. Pinch screw, upper (2)
12. Pinch screw, lower (2)
13. Steering head (part of frame)

Yeah, I thought that had been cleared up already, but I guess I was wrong.

Ok, I can understand there are not actually cups but just a race. Top came out smooth, bottom is still stuck. I guess I was trying to find a shortcut. This has been tough.

This is what I was looking for in the neck...

It can be confusing to people because the Outer Race is also called a "Bearing Cup"

Also that pic above represents the later 04-later frame in the bearing area so it looks different than an 03-earlier frame, although they both use the same bearings / races (cups)

I was confused because everyone said knock the cups out but all I could find was the races and the bottom one is epoxied in. It is fighting me every step of the way trying to get it out.

Heating it up with an electric paint stripper might soften it up.
