Yes it is more of a scrambler look now. It would take some serious suspension mods to get away from looking like some sort of scrambler. But overall I have been satisfied with how its turned out. I plan on more mods later.

Been looking closely at the SCR950 and the major advantage the sportster has is aftermarket support and parts swapping. The SCR has only a 3 gal tank. Its engine is smoother from what I have read, but still buzzy as it is a solid mount. Whereas if one started with a solid mount sporty you could end up about 50lbs lighter and the possibility of way more power if cash and desire met up with each other.

If I ever do one I will start with an 883 for the gearing. Of course one could easily swap those from a 1200 with someone going the other direction with an 883.

None of these options available on the Yam. As a roll out the door factory model the SCR wins but it ends there IMHO.

I did seriously look at the SCR. But like you said, the aftermarket parts ia a big plus for the Sportster.

A couple of major changes are in the process, I have the Supertrapp XR upswept exhaust and a Saddlemen Eliminator tail section and seat on the way. I also went ahead and got a wider rear tire. The 140 was fine, but hey, they make a 150.. (thank you tax return).
I will post pics when its all installed.

Got the 150 Kenda big block rear tire mounted on the wheel today. My new seat and tail section is hear and i. In the process of mocking it up before paint. New Supertrapp exhaust arrived today.
Going to get the tail section and seat on, then figure out rear lights. Still waiting on new air cleaner, its still stuck in the snow storms on a fed ex truck somewhere between NV and OH.

See we were right the Sporty is a dirt bike. Looks great. This is the kind of project someone should do with a Street 750.

Hey if Yamaha can easily do a scrambler with the Bolt (SCR950) then HD should have done one with an 883 at least. I inagine plastic fenders, for weight, and spoked aluminum rims and swing arm. Oh and solid mount motor for weight savings too.
More power than most of us can use in the dirt and just about 50 lbs more than a KLR.

A couple of pics with the new seat mocked up, ready for some OD green paint, and 150 tire installed.

Now onto the new exhaust and air cleaner.
