I heard the honda is direct swap (39mm) but I think the ktm requires tree swap as well. Don't quote me on that. I had an xl600 just a few years ago, and can assure you, you will need stiffer springs. They were a little spongy, and the xl600 only weighs about 330 lbs.

I'm accumulating parts and info for a future Dirtster (several projects away) and found out XL600 front ends are a popular swap. I've a low mileage 883 solid mount engine and frame but I'll throw on a bore kit if I like the results. Anyone contemplating one should check multiple forums because they are getting more popular and rightly so since Sporsters were racing scrambles before most of us in this forum were born.
To me, thats the best way to go. Best gear ratios for off road low end grunt right where you need it. In my mind, I would probably not even worry about the 1200 kit unless I was using it as a long road "adventure" bike. I am sure for no more aggressive than I am off road, the stage 1, 883 would have more than enough power. Even though I ride a 1200, dirt is something else.

I wouldn't be the guy thats going to race the Carducci sportster in the baja 1000, that built the bike up to over 100 hp according to their website.

I have access to a complete KTM front end, forks, wheel, triple tree and the entire brake system. Its on a 2004 KTM 525 EXC. Im just not sure what all is envolved, or if this paticular front end will work.

If you dont have em already get some calipers and measure upper tubes. Should be 39mm. Otherwise might need heavier springs
