So am I. But it's not in the muffler. Look under your bike (CA model I assume) and you will see a black round cylinder...

Interesting. Will do but I see vids of them INSIDE some mufflers.

For 2007 models?? Like you, I have a 2007 XL1200L and I can assure you I don't have cats in my mufflers. BTW I opened up my muffers a bit using this: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Grip-Rit...SPKE/100156844

My bad, that's a canister for controlling fuel evaporation:

So, IIRC our model year does NOT have cats.

LOL not sure I can afford such exotic tools. I was going to rely on cheap ole drill bits.

Hope you are right on model year.

As for the Xied and Vied from what I read they affect only closed loop fueling, as I understand that means pretty much constant throttle and NOT accelerating or decelerating, correct? Seems to me, not getting the extra fuel when accelerating would hurt performance more than a little. Or did I misunderstand something?

This makes a lot more sense than the backpressure theory that people throw around!
Thank you for the explanation.

OK so an update. I bought a set of factory mufflers off ebay and will experiment on those. Will start by removing the baffles, enlarging the holes in them and welding them back in place. For fuel I went with the Vied since it has slight adjustability. So I will have less than $200 in it and will see what we see.

Based on the majority of what I have read I am reasonably hopeful for the outcome. I will update when installed and tested.

Not sure what year they started putting cats on the Sportsters. But I could have sworn my last 07 883 CA model had cats in the mufflers. Then at some point they moved them from the mufflers up into the header pipe.

Well the ones I bought do not have them. So at some point if it needs to be stock for any reason I can take it back to stock with no reflashing going on. At least with this setup.
