What rear shock is this??

I borrowed two used rear shocks for my 48.... they ride surprisingly well!! Does ANYBODY know what type of shock this is?? Not a good photo ... but it has a type of plastic ring with "fingers" running down under the black springs. I need to make an offer and do not know what they are worth?? Anyone??

They look like HD Roadster shocks. HD shocks usually have a sticker or stamp with part #. However the black spring is throwing me off. Unless the spring was painted? if they are Roadster shocks you may want to put some miles on them first. Run em through the ringer. I've heard people describe them as "springy".

They come with black paint.... I got the following photo on Google and it looks like the ones on my bike... described as Factory Sportster Shocks by Dennis Kirk. Maybe just an older version Sportster shock? Kirk wants $117 for them new - which is not a bad price. My dealer wants $110 used... 😁

The ones on Dennis Kirk are off brand direct replacements. That might explain the black spring with chrome trim.

Yep, they are springy and not so good, had them on my 08 Roadster, had to set max preload to avoid bottoming riding solo at 200 lbs. BTW if they are Roadster shocks they should measure 13.25" between bushing centers when fully extended...

They look like the stock shocks on my '91, except for spring color. Same as later Roadsters, 13 1/4". Maybe knock off stockers?

On Ebay... called Harley Dyna Sportster shocks.... same as on my bike... seems to be pure old Harley... and they ride well. I'd not say springy at all... I'm smiling after riding with the stock 2016 short travel Forty Eight shocks!!

That's basically them ... BTW, those didn't come on dynas and one wouldn't want to use on a Dyna ... Different Spring Rates because of different "Leverage" (and weight)

.

Sportster shocks went to a new emulsion design in 2016 and are much improved over earlier versions. FWIW the stock shocks I pulled off my 08 Roadster are marked with PN 54566-04 on a small decal.
