How Do I Remove Speedo But Retain Indicator Panel
In the middle of a semi build of a 2002 Sportster. I want to remove the speedo entirely from my 2002 Sportster as will be running a GPS unit. However, I want to retain the indicator light bar and have a nice looking riser mount for the application. The speedo has 4 wires going into the main light harness. I don't want to cut these but certainly could solder back on later but there has to be an easier way. Also, one of the wires is black and looking at the shop manual, I am wondering if this is the ground for the turn signals to flash. If there is a thread on this already, I was unable to locate it. Any advice would be great. Thanks.

A black wire from the speedo? Is it the ground for the light inside the speedo? My speedo has a wire for the TSM, but it's green/white IIRC.
Nice looking bike, very clean, I like it! I've been thinking about removing my pillion seat and going with a rack like that (maybe). Is it at all useful? John |
Thanks, the pics are more of a mock up, the bike is now getting the fenders sorted for mounting tabs and then paint. Hope to have back in a few weeks. Don't know about the seat, but I sure hope so given the price of the seat and the base plate. That makes sense about the speedo light, but having the speedo off everything works except the signals don't flash, they come on ok, so not sure what the issue might be.

Are you using LED's without a load equalizer? I can't quite see if it's a bulb or LED in that left taillight.
