I wanted to try and replace the stock springs with a softer spring . it seems such a waste to just replace them with a new set. I appreciate the feedback but I will like to try it anyways . if only I can get the springs off i can go to a used parts dealer and try on different springs. I need a softer suspension but I have to try this option first before I buy a new set.
Be assured it is not a waste! Stock shocks are cheap and nasty things, which only work for some owners. Shocks are one of the most common subjects around HDF, because every model of Harley comes on cheap shocks which only suit a few of us. Being a lightweight, or indeed a heavyweight, drops you outside the operating 'window' of stock shocks. IMHO you risk hurting yourself trying to dismantle those shocks without suitable workshop tools, and with little prospect of success. Far better to bide your time and identify a brand of shocks that can supply you with a set matched to your weight, with the correct springs already installed.
