I adjusted the belt but will recheck when on the ground. I do not have the proper size socket. Largest I have is 1 1/8". I used a metric but is too large for continued use. Manual does not state the size of axle nut, anyone know?

they must have changed the nut size. My 2006 1 1/8 fits perfect

Well, let me state first that I loosened mine from the left side, and didn't remove, or need to remove the clip. The axle bolt itself might be larger. Did not try the nut. When I first did it, the bike was in the air, and the rear muffler was in the way. So I did it from the same side later when I set it on the ground.

Didn't even look and see if the muffler was out of the way then, duh. Probably was. Have been working on relocating turn signals and making QD brackets for my hard bags, so my mind was going in several directions. When I get back out to my shop I will set it back on the ground and double check the tension.

I will also get a tension gauge on order. So many things in my head right now. Also need to order some locking DQ latches.

Ok I went out and looked, my socket was a 1 1/16" so I was thinking it must be 1 1/8". Will pick one of those up too.

Rule of thumb, if you can grab the belt with thumb and forefinger and turn it 45 degrees you are close. Less than 45 is tight more is loose

So how does that work if you have an older bike with a 1 1/2" wide belt, or a more recent one with a 7/8" belt? Or for that matter if you happen to be a 100 pound girl or a 200 pound weight training hulk? A belt tensioner is a bit more uniform!

I think he was just giving something to gauge with till I get the proper tool. I could lift my belt well over an inch before. Was shocked when I tested that. Surprised itvdidn't skip on me, but glad it didn't.

Ok I ordered the motion pro tool, and also ordered a set of locking quick release latches for my saddlebags. I should be just about ready for them when they arrive.

Will have to give it a test ride when the rain quits. Got another storm moving in tonight.

I also picked up a 1 1/8" socket yesterday. It fits both sides, but a little looser than I thought it would be. Craftsman socket so should be decent quality, unless they have gone way down hill in the last few years.
