Remind us again of the year of your bike?

Originally what size was the metric socket you used? I ask because at some point, I think from 2008 on, the size changed to 36mm one side and 28mm the other.

The bike is a 2007 but will have to look in the shop (when it warms a bit) at the socket.

On a search it does look to be a 1 1/8" "On the '05 (assume it's the same '06-'07) it's 1⅛"."

It must have been 2008 the axle went metric.

EDIT: The copy and paste function on this forum is very weird to say the least!

Something I never tried before, but if I put calipers on the nut, would the nut be exactly 1 1/8" and the socket slightly larger or is the socket 1 1/8" and the nut slightly smaller? Been doing mechanic stuff since late '60s and never wondered which was which.

Maybe some auto engineer on here can answer that one.

I ask this because I measured the nut in inches and it was smaller than 1.125. Don't recall what it was though.

On a similar note I purchased a set of spanners in the '70s when cars over here were imperial.

The 3/4" spanner would not fit the nut used on the bottom bolt of the rear shock absorber and 3/8" would not fit the adjuster on the throttle cable.

A new set of spanners I have purchased do fit.

Sportsters aren't bad for changing belts. At least compared to a Big Twin.

Well as I posted above the tool is on order so when the tool arrives it will be done to spec.

Barneyboy
I will have another look at that.
