Wich ignition mark with VOES disconnected
Hello, I'm Erwin from Belgium. I have a sportster XLH1200 1989 originaly with electr ignition and VOES thing on carb. When I bought the motorcycle I saw that they put contact points in it and the VOES pipe was disconnected. In the carb was just an open plug?! I put a rubber "hat" over that VOESplug, so it's closed. In the manual they say: adv 40° with VOES and 16° BTDC VOES disconnected at appr 1800rpm. In de ignition window I see a dot and a vertical line. The dot is the advance mark I suppose. For static timing: The cam can be retard with a special tool that hold the "legs" open. I rotate the igition plate until the points just start to open (with a multimeter). My question is, do I do this on the dot (40° I suppose), a guess and try to set the ignition on 16° or do I set it on the line mark (with the advance cam fully hold open)
If I use a timing ligt, do I see the dot (40°) or the "imagined" 16° dot?
Sorry for my crappy English... :-)
