Default Horrible sound when starting hot

Okay fellas, i need the experts to try and help me before i go spend too much money at a shop. The problem I've started to encounter over the last year or so since i did the 883 - 1200 conversion is that i get a horrible grinding sound when i start my bike after riding for a while. When she's hot is sounds a lot like this video i have posted here THIS IS NOT MY BIKE THOUGH...
Like i said i only experience this when the bike is hot.

It may be a coincidence that i only found it to be a problem after the conversion but i just don't know. I had a reputable shop here in town do the head work for me but i'm not about to take it back in there, i'd like to resolve this myself. I did some research and found a number of potential issues, starter clutch i think or even something as simple as the battery not having enough juice. I at least changed the battery but it did nothing. Actually i find that it hesitates for a moment to turn over when i do start it, hot or cold, almost like there isn't enough power to turn it over. Is it common to have to change the starter when you do the 883 - 1200 conversion? I'm in Canada so i do most of my bike shopping at Fortnine. I found this there https://fortnine.ca/en/all-*****-hd-starter-motors for my 2005 883 but i'm wondering if this is even going to make a difference. Obviously i don't want to throw 400 bucks away.

Any feedback is appreciated.

That is a scary sound all right. Myself and others have has this very same condition. I let mine go for over a year before getting the starter rebuilt. Before that I replaced the battery which cured the noise for a time. It does sound like a bad Bendix to me also. The 1200 has a higher compression ratio than the 883, which may worsen the symptom.

Sounds like the starter gear slamming into engagement!

Pull the end cap off the starter. You will probably see where it's arching? But even if you don't see arching I agree, starter is taking a dump.

Thanks guys. After your suggestions and some more thought i am just going to replace the starter

Anyone use the All ***** starters? Its 1.4kw so i believe thats a bit beefier than stock which i'm sure will do the trick.

Hi...what tuner are you using ....the timing is too advanced ...need to retard it somehow ..(4-6 degree's) ...or you will be changing the starter again... soon...
good luck ..

I'd heed aswracing's diagnosis. Perhaps you can do it yourself, since the starter has to come out anyway. I kind of doubt timing is the issue.
