2000 Sportster 883: Starting Problem
So I went to start my 2000 Sportster 883, it clicked and lights went out telling me the battery was dead. So I put my battery on trickle charge and once charged I reinstalled. I attempted to start the bike the lights came on but it clicked once and the lights went out then came back on and same result two more attempts. So I went to advanced and had them test the battery. The cold crank amps were off so I purchased a new battery. After installing a the new battery, I still would only get a click and it wouldn’t turn over. I’m curious as to what you guys think would be the problem. Starter? Solenoid? Solenoid relay? Also, if it’s a solenoid can I rebuild it or do I have to purchase a whole starter/solenoid? Please throw some ideas out, preferably lesser costs to higher.
Thanks!
Thanks!

I had the same problem. Replaced the starter and the battery. It turned out to be the positive battery cable. I finally took the cable out and stripped some of the sheath off of it and it fell apart in my hands at the crimp near the starter. It is a pain to get to, but my bike starts like a champ now. I could hear a crackle, or pop when I hit the start button, but I never associated it with the cable. My lights would come on also and then hit the start button, and nothing.
