Clutch Options

Clutch Options
40000 miles and every now and then I am starting to feel the odd slip under a heavy right wrist.
So looking for upgrade options...
Am thinking of the Energy One...but spring choice..15% or 25% stronger spring and what is the difference..
If there are other options as well I am interested to hear people's opinions on other clutches too

Seems like really low miles to need a new clutch unless you have a stump puller of a built motor. What type and year of bike are we talking about? Hydro clutch or cable? If cable are you certain it was adjusted correctly at the last time? How many miles ago was the last adjustment? What type of fluid are you running in the primary, and have you always run that? Any modifications to the stock clutch, such as an extra plate or heavier spring?

I used the energy one extra plate kit with heavy duty spring last year. I love it. Word of caution......use their recommendation of B&M Trick shift trans fluid in the primary and when doing the initial adjustment only back out the rod adjustment 1/4 turn instead of a half as recommended by Harley

I have the HD SE performance clutch that increases the clutch plate surface area 13%, eliminates the "spring plate" and includes a 10% stronger clutch spring.

The clutch pull was noticeably heavier at first than the stock 1200 clutch spring.
I believe starting in ~2004 the 883 uses a lighter clutch spring than the 1200 models from the factory.
So you would notice more difference in pull than on a 1200 model.
Clutch Spring options:
1991-later Sportsters
Screamin’ Eagle HD-style Clutch Spring

My bike has around 22,000 miles on it and I would like to replace the clutch just for peace of mind. Probably next year.
From what I've read on here, Screaming Eagle and Energy One can squeal while accelerating. Barnett clutches do not squeal, so they get my vote. The only thing I am not sure of yet is kevlar or carbon fiber.

from the 2013 or even the 2015 genuine Harley Worksop manuals it’s always been "adjust and then back off a Quarter turn".
Remove hex lockplate with attached spring (3) from flats
of adjusting screw assembly (8). Turn adjusting screw
counterclockwise until resistance is felt. Back off adjusting
screw 1/4 turn.

You got 40,000 miles out of your original clutch, have you done any high performance mods that warrant a heavier duty clutch?
If you haven't changed things other than say a stage one kit, why put up with the heavier clutch pull of a heavy duty clutch and spring?
I had the spring plate rattling a little bit, pulled the clutch apart and the friction disks measured well within specs, so I just added the extra plates and got rid of the spring pack. Now my clutch squeaks as it engages. I'm about ready to just buy a new spring plate and get rid of the additional plates I put in it. The stock clutch works just fine.
