Fork Spring Spacer
So I ordered Progressive Suspension fork springs for my 2010 Forty Eight. I tear the whole front end apart, open the box and there's no spacers in there.
I know, I know...why didn't I look in the box first? Because I'm an idiot. Anyway, can I just use 3" pieces of PVC pipe or is there something better? I don't want to wait for Revzilla to fix their F-up. |
Yes, make sure its schedule 40 I think its called. Thats what should have been in the box.
My Race Tech springs came with 2 pieces 4 inch long so they can be cut to size. Just make sure its the schedule 40, which has very thick walls. Its not the thin stuff. |
Schedule 40 is thinner wall than schedule 80 and is more of a white color vs grey fro schedule 80. Does that sound like what you have?
Yes, my spacers were white, which is the color of Schedule 40.
Im sure there is thicker stuff than schedule 40, but the 40 is what is normally used.
I do not know if sched 80 comes in that small of diameter. I had to use it for the power line feed from the power transformer to my meter box, when we built our house. That was 3" dia pipe though. Have never seen it in small sizes. What size (dia) do you use for the forks anyway? Mine doesn't have any. It looks like about 1" but not sure.
You dont need schedule 80, 40 is what is the standard in use for the forks. I have seen people use the thinner stuff also with no problems, so the 40 is fine.
Thanks everyone. Schedule 40 did the trick.
I used schedule 40 in 3/4". It has a 1" O.D. which is a perfect fit.
