Default '86 Sportster adjusting the clutch help needed!

OK, so I bought an '86 883 Sporty that ran great but needed a main shaft. Replaced that and got everything ready to go but I can't get the clutch adjusted at all. I have read every book, forum and possibly the dead sea scrolls and we cannot get it to work. There is very, very, very little feel in the lever. I'm going to shoot it if I can't figure this out.

Please any suggestions would be great. Simple to the stupid, let 'em fly!

And thanks!
