BTW, when installing the large cover, will I need to drain the primary first?

 

yes. the primary cover will release the oil if you do not drain it first

 

if you stick a 2x4 under the kickstand before pulling the cover you shouldn't loose any tranny fluid

 

If you straighten up the bike it won't drain the fluid.If it is on the kickstand in normal position it will leak tranny fluid.
