Since I trashed theSh!tty Dunlop tires that came on the bike and switched tometzler maraton ME880 tires I haven't had any problems with the grooves or themetal grate stylebridges around the downtown Milwaukee area. They seem to wear like iron too. Can't complain.

Just look straight ahead like you are supposed to and don't even pay attention to the grooves. Physics will keep you upright, it's when people start to freak out and over compensate when problems occur. Bikes are capable of so much more than people are willing to push them. Man up and ride over it doing at least 10 over the speed limit or go get yourself some training. It may save your life.

I agree those metzler tires do work better with these type of road surfaces, and I have them on my bike, but today, I had this type of road surface move be around all over the place. You just have to take it easy, try to stay straight, and hang on for the ride.

Lots of good advice all ready posted. Another strategy, if you have mid mounted pegs, it to stand on the pegs, with a bend in your legs. Keep speed stable, let the bars move in your hands and ride through it.

This is a little scary at first, but it works.

Yup...it works! The gyroscopic effect of the bike will keep it upright, as has been said...just relax as much as possible, take it easy and let the bike do most of the work. All the rider has to do is stay somewhere in the middle of the lane. And yeah, it's a little scary being introduced to these damn grooves for the first time at 75 mph! "Oh, so THAT'S what it feels like!" A sinking feeling that I don't have full control over the bike. I'm getting used to it, though. Just takes riding on them a few times.

Gotta love America...

We pay taxes on our bikes just like cagers do... we have to have insurance... tags... inspection stickers...

When road maintenance is done, planned... the biker isn't even considered from a safety stand point...

Go figure...

So I've heard in here to "hold the handlebars tight" from one person and to "let the bars move in your hands and ride through it" from another.

What's the correct advice?

Just hold the handlebar tight and follow the road.
