I bought a pair of these aluminum bar & shield emblems for the carbon fiber fuel tank cover on my XR1200, I haven't installed them yet. They are the usual H-D high quality.

I saw them on line as well. I was going to get the chrome looking ones. I have not yet pulled the trigger on them. I'm going to wait and see if your's bend like they say. Not to be Debbie Downer, but from the reviews I read the sticky is not strong enough to hold the curve. I am definitely interested to see how you make out with them. I hope that the reviews are wrong. Thanks for sharing. Rubber side down. I also like the road kind Willie G ones that I saw but not sure if they bend. Keep me posted.

It maybe the emblems need holding in place with masking tape or similar for several hours to allow the adhesive to set.

OK, Andy, I usually don't rely on the stock adhesive, I have a roll of Halford's 2" wide vehicle double sided tape, it is a black rubberised tape and it sticks like **** to a blanket.

Fortunately the sides of my fuel tank cover are flat, so there is no bending of the emblems required. I have some different emblems that I don't intend using, they will be up for grabs for free, I will send you a PM later today if you are interested in them.

I had Iron Crosses on the side covers of my Heritage. Loved the way they looked.

Surface preparation is key to producing a proper bond, along with a dry air temperature that's in the minimum 70°F/21°C range.

Alcohol applied to the intended surface with a cottom ball works great for removing any oils or dirt, and when allowed to air dry before applying the product will help assure proper adhesive adhesion even on curved surfaces. And yes, as you suggest, applying a sturdy tape to help the emblem stay in position while the adhesive cures is also helpful, as is seen on new auto windshield/screen applications.

I searched all over for a Roadster decal I could put on mine before I clear coated them after painting but couldn’t find anything I liked so I just went ahead and cleared them, I’m happy with how it came out with them just painted.

Another trick is to warm the adhesion before applying the emblem.
