The moco makes a tour-pac for the sporty that incorperates a backrest, for use with a solo seat only I think.

The Sundowner is a great long trip seat. (great support)I use the stock around town.

Mustang makes various seats with adjustable driver backrests for the Sportsters, and you can check some of them out at the below site..

They only list them for the 2003 and earlier Sportsters, but I've been told that they now have them for the newer models.

I have a 'quick disconnect' driver backrest on my Road King, and it is nice on longer trips.

Yup, check out Mustang. I have their Vintage Solo seat and love it, but without the back rest. I too have a bad back with a degenerated disc.

I also have some back problems, but not as severe as you describe. For me, I have the Sundowner, which provides great lower back support. And I have a small bag, it's actually a HD cooler, that I generally keep on passenger seat. When that bag is full it works great as a back rest.

The Corbin seat with backrest is first class. Gonna cost you around $400. Worth every penny. Or as mentioned HD solo tour rack and touring bag with built in back rest, butts right up to a solo seat.A lot of money ($700)but the tour pack is very useful and looks good too

I've got the Corbin Solo Seat w/optional backrest...

I've had it a little over a year.... love the backrest... I can't say the seat is all the comfortable though....

Thought it would get better with time... I was wrong...

It just may be my A$$ though...:D
