Default Another handlebar question...How do I run the wiring in the bars......

Is there any info out there on how I can get the wiring to run inside my handlebars. Any how-to's out there. I would like to do this as a winter project.

TIA

You need bars that are pre-drilled at both ends and in the middle, then you just feed the wires thru.
Not sure if you can just drill the bars yourself, might weaken them too much but if you do make sure you remove any burs or sharp edges so the wires don't wear thru.

I drilled my bars, just make sure you get ones that are "dimpled" at the top so that under the controls the wires have room to run in them. Then file around the holes. And then just dont drill the holes much larger than you need. If you have to splice in more wire DO NOT CUT THE WHOLE BUNDLE IN THE SAME SPOT!! it will be too fat for the bars. Just stragger the cuts and make the seams as small as possible. With one inch bars for me it was like a 12pack job, and once done another 6pack to celebrate. Take your time and it can be a little frustrating but better that paying a dealer way too much money.

Beyond the above suggestions, I can only suggest patience. It was kindof a pain pulling apart the switch housing and getting it back together for me, but I got it done!

I just did my bars, and thenew bars I put on had 90degree turns. I don't know what type of bars you are going with, or if you are even changing them, but just take it slow. Make sure you have a sodering iron, plenty of soder, heat shrink, some I think it was 18 gauge wire, and the primary ingredient = patience. Do not rush, or you will forget something. Like said before, stagger the splices, it will save you in the end.
