Default Sportster with Peanut 3.3 and Also later with 4.5

I have a seat coming soon that will fit the 4.5 cause the old seat is a inch or 2 long besides the fact that the seat that came on it's ugly as hell . Comfortable though. IN my signature I have the sike with the 4.5 and in the attached I have the bike as I bought it. Made a fair amount of change's so there's some difference and there;s mag wheels on it now. Like I said Peanut tank is bad *** on it but the 4.5 looks good too.

I think the 4.5 tank looks great on the sportys. I say if you like it do it.
I bet it would look nice plus the upgraded range is great if you do anything more than bar hopping. I know that with my bike an extra gallon is 50 miles more. That means you can do easily 150 plus without going into the reserve. That's great for long trips.

Default back to the peanut

After about 4 months with the 4.5 which was great for range I decided to go back to the 3.3 peanut tank. I'll keep the 4.5 for trips and use the 3.3 for around town. It just looks so much better. I've seen the sportsters with the 4.5 tanks and they look bland, I think the deciding factor is it just looks so much more bad ***.

Thanks for posting the pics. I also have the same model bike (#1372) and was considering doing EXACTLY what you did...getting the bigger tank and having it painted and badged to match the origonal. Seeing your pics convinced me that it really isn't worth the effort, and it's better to have the bike you love.

I'll keep mine low-key custom, thank you very much!

They increased the size of the tank on the touring models to 6 gallons for '08 without it looking too different.

I prefer the look of the peanut tank, but stopping for gas is a pain, and I ended upwith a custom
^ This!

Add 1" of height, 2" of width and 1.5" of length and that should yield a useful increase in capacity.

I really like the look of the Peanut tank. The current 4.5 gal Sportster tank isn't my favorite but is very useful. If Harley would stretch the 3.3 gal tank, I think they could get a full 4 gal Peanut tank.

A gallon is a cube of 6", almost exactly, just to give an idea of how big one is. Doesn't sound much! I have a 6 gallon dresser tank and have compared it with my Glide's 5 gallon. Some of the extra gas comes from having a flatter bottom of the new tank, it is also an inch or so longer and the same width, but has a curved top, not flat like the previous tanks.

An extra .7 gallons is just over 4 cubic inches, which should be easy to arrange!

My extra 1.5" x 2" x 1" isn't far off. Make it a 1.5" x 2.2" x 1.2" stretch and it should be right at 4 gal

Indeed - now we just need someone to go and do it!

Default Sportster fuel tank too small

I plan to ride a 700 mile trip, (in a few months) to visit my mother & father; gravesite, and my living sister and brother, am wanting to be, on the highway for 150 miles per tankful. (Before hitting reserve) Then I'll only have to fuel up five times, for the entire trip one way, vs. seven or eight times. (Depending on; how many times I stop and eat, and amount of times I need to relieve myself, or just need to stop! Remember, I'll be riding a Sportster.) I'm a 63yo man! (All I have left to call mine of value, is my Sportster! Don't have much money. Or time left! Then, I'll ride back home to Alabama.

Default Sportster 3.3 to 4.5 gallon tank swap.

I was wondering about the quality of available custom tanks and how easily they install. Any help or suggestions on where to buy is appreciated.
Hey, hope you are doing ok!
Yea, an 07 Sportster XL1200C will fit it.
I researched it, because I plan on getting one! (4.5 gallon tank!) An extra gallon doesn't seem like much, but it will greatly reduce the amount of stops to fuel up, on a long trip.
