First of all a SE 44mm big bore carb is probably Way to Much carb for a 883 or even a 1200 for that matter. The only way that will work right is if the motor has some serious mods to it. I would recommend a Mikuni 42 for a 883 or 1200. I have one on my 05 1200R and it seems to run pretty good. Ive heard that even the Mikuni 42 is to big for a 883/1200. My 2 cents....

Hello Francos

I have a XL 883 R 2003. I Have now 1200ccm with Buell Thunderstorm and Screamin'Eagle Parts. I changed the original carb with a Mikuni 42, but I need a few Time to find out, with needle is the best for the fuel.. The otherway the airfilter was all the time full of gas...

I tried also the Mikuni 44, but my dealer was not very happy about this part...

If you speaks or understands german, i can send you the list about my changing parts...My English is not very well for technical words

Greatings from Switzerland

Do you even know if a 44mm carb will fit on your stock intake?

The one you should be looking for is the Mikuni HSR42, but as ScreaminEagle883 stated I dont know whether it will fit the 05 model.
The dyno chart shows a comparason between stock CV and the Mikuni on a mildly tuned 883. An increase of under 2 bhp!!!

Click here for a complete Mikuni tuning manual in Adobe format

Hope this helps
