I had a '78 sporty a while back, great bike. One of the mechs at the dealer had a '79, also a great bike, but he said the same thing as a couple other folks. HD was changing some things at the time, and finding parts for it can be a pain sometimes.

Its an Iron head....It is cool, and it will require maintenance! I would like to get rid of my 03 and get a iron head....1970 preferably. Enjoy the bike!

the biggest thing is what skip said, most parts from other sportys may not fit yours. just make sure you can get parts for it. good luck have fun be safe!!
