Default Swapping stock drag bars to...

I know I’ll need new cables, but can I use the rest of the stock hardware just to keep her on the road and customize as I go? Figure I can flip the mirrors so they’re below the bars and the gauges shouldn’t need much adjustment.

Don't forget wiring! I put 12" Holy Rollers from Road 6 Customs on and used a 6" wiring extension kit and soldered those in. I could've gone with 4". Bars are internally wired. Not exactly easy with the 90° turns on these bars but not too bad.
You don't say what year but the 4 1/2" pullback riser had to go. 12" apes look dumb with it. I used 1 1/2" risers with a top plate from an earlier model that the indicator lights fit so need to go to the longer, narrower led version and went with a separate speedo mounting solution that doesn't stick up between the bars. Relocated the front directionals to the forks. Lower triple tree pinch bolts actually.
I've got a thread buried at the xl forums with the part numbers I used.
This pic shows the results.

Awesome. She’s a 2001 1200. I’ll have to grab the wiring extension and go from there. I guess I’ll have to adjust as I go and see which route I’m headed

I changed the bars on a 2008 custom from stock to what is on the superlow.

Barnett throttle cables have a 90° turn at the handlebars. Personally I think they look crap and don't have boots to protect the adjusters.

For apes I think the throttle cables need to "point" more to where they need to go near the triple tree.

For wiring I have the tools so made extensions the same as Burley, pin one end socket the other. They can be removed easily in the future if different bars are fitted.

I soldered my pins a year later after a couple were inadvertently pulled apart causing it to die when I turned. Fortunately it happened at home.
I used the Magnum black pearl cables and the stock boots over the adjusters. The clutch cable is a never lube. Did away with the hard line in the front brake.

I used adhesive lined heat shrink. Just a preference to not solder. Radio control guys found thin wires can fracture just after the solder joint so I prefer crimping.

The Barnett adjusters are much thinner unfortunately.

I can see that happening. I was careful with the heat and didn't carried away with solder. Enough to get a drop or 2 to keep them tight really as I did use shrink wrap tubing but I'm not sure if it was adhesive. Good idea tho.
I generally don't like to solder small wires either.
