ya know man, I am going to give you some advice that I wish somebody would have given me way back before I started screwing around with my sporty, chasing the hp dream...here goes..."if you want to go fast, buy a yamaha R1, or similar liter bike, leave your sportster alone". It's only going to break your heart and your wallet if you start this process of chasing hp on a harley. My experience in trying to do this on 2 sportsters now is that the bike becomes really un-reliable, overheating, pinging, detonating, etc. The more mods you do, the more of a puzzle this becomes. For example, you can spend $350 on an air intake that your tech will tell you doesn't work with the $400 carb you just bought? It's a hard game man, run away....run away and don't look back. You are going to look cool on your sportster while you are riding it every day, enjoying the vibration, smell of oil and beautiful clatter of that v twin engine. HD is all about style, not speed. Just my 2 cents from experience. I am sure many will disagree with me.

Well said amigo. \\;\\\\\\; Well said... \\;\\\\\\; I like to tweak things myself to maybe get a little edge but if you're really wanting serious results, just leave it as is and buy something else.
 \\;\\\\\\;
My daughter and nephews spend their weekends wasting time tweaking their 4 banger rice burner cars, buying little nic-nac mods that have little or no results and in the grand sceme of things, my 5.7liter stock truck still out runs all those fools. \\;\\\\\\; I keep telling them, if you're going to invest all your time and energy and want max results, just carve out the firewall, wheel wells and drop a 350 with supercharger and 700 tranny. \\;\\\\\\; That'll make those rice burners perform and sound like a real American hotrod.
 \\;
Like the actor Robert Duvall said, if you were a bull, don't run down the hill to f_ck a cow, walk down and bang'em all.

dude stay away from the nrhs kit with your 05!!! it has been stated many many times on this forum that the nrhs kit will only result in terrible oil consumption issues with the rubbermount sportsters. \\; if you want the 1200 kit, use the harley one.

The basic difference between 883 and 1200 is diameter of the bore. If you can do the work yourself the 883 to 1200 conversion is pretty cheap HP.
Pistons designed to use your existing 883 heads are about $150.00 for the pair. Bore (.250 thou) and hone your 883 cylinders. At our machine shop bore and hone is $75.00 ea. cylinder. Gasket set is about $75.00.
So for about $375.00 (and your labor) you can have a 883 converted to a 1200 and end up within a couple HP of the 1200.
