I Like the HD conversion. But I would sell my 883 and use the money that I would of spent on a 1200 model. The HD conversion would cost at least 2grand with labor.Mabe more at the dealers. And it's still a 883 on paper.

Neither...go to http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ and get the kit from them...much higher quality and WAY cheaper than either the stealer or JP.

Watch out for the NRHS kit though if you have an 04 or newer Sporty. A few people have had high oil consumption problems after having that kit installed. I was one of them and it ain't fun let me tell ya. The problem never was resolved and there is a thread on the XL forum to this day that has never reached a conclusion.

With the HD kit you get heads. The other Kits you don't thats why they cost less. The Hd kit is around $1,400.00 retail. Can get 20% off on some of the on line HD dealers webs

I've converted many 883 to 1200. Allot cheaper then going out and trading it in for a 1200. Also cheaper on insurance since many states say that anything over 1000cc your insurance will go up. Just don't tell them you converted it. Also the power is a hell of more torque than a stock 1200.

The gears are lower too which is good for quick take offs but tiring on the highway.

Just get the SE reverse dome pistons and bore the juggs. My local HD dealer did it including all parts and labor for right at $1000.00. This included tuning the carb. Using stock 883 heads it will give you slightly higher compression. And on paper it is still an 883, which means I pay taxes and insurance on an 883, much less. And the enjoyment I get from smoking a BT off the line from what appears to be an 883 is PRICELESS!!!! The lower 883 gearing screams off the line.

The more I ride my bike the more I wish I had a 1200. In traffic going to school the bike just seems to take its sweet time getting up to speed, and I am pushing it quite a bit. This is what I saw on a local Indy shop's website:

OUT THE DOOR FOR 799.00 ADD: GLASSBEADED HEADS/ SEATS RECUT/ VALVES RESURFACED/ SPRING PRESSURE CHECKED/ NEW VALVE GUIDE SEALS INSTALLED 150.00 ADD: S&S SUPER E CARB.388.95 MANY MORE OPTIONS AVAILABLE TO MAKE YOUR SPORTSTER GO.
SPORTSTER BIG BORE $850.00

Wonder how good a deal that is.
