My old 883 ran pretty dang good, except that at about 95 mph it was all done,my stock 1200 will hit 110 real quick, just depends what you are wanting to do I guess.

Id just get a 1200. I know people that have done the conversion and they have tons of problems. Plus youll get more out of it when you trade it.

I thought it was well worth the trouble and Money ... I got the 04 XL883 for a song and for 700.00 more had a good 1200 same one I still have ... to have bought an 04 1200 would have cost me at least 2 grand more at the time.. Is true resale value is higher than an XL883 but not worried about trading it in or selling it anyway..

Rode my 883 from here to Terrell Tx and back, last year. VERY anemic for the long grades in Missouri. Bought an FXDL and as soon as I pay it off will do a 1200 on the sportster. Not sure yet if it will be a Headquarters http://www.head-quarters.com/ or an http://www.nrhsperformance.com/ekit8831200.shtml conversion but am leaning to nrhs. Death do us part thing with the sportster

Hi Mark,
A few months ago, I was asking the same question. I have been out of the motorcyle scene for over 30 yrs and last July 08 I got me a 2000 883 Custom w/ only 725 miles.I love it and still do. Now, as everyone was saying it depends on what you want and how you use your bike. I have riden two 1200 owned by friends of mine and because of the way I drive.... I can truly say my 883 is perfect for me. If I want a faster performance bike, I will buy a VRod!! Jeez, I rode on one ( another friend's) and whoooaaa!!! Fun.. fun.. but no not for me ( I am 59 yrs old if you want to qualify my opinon LOL) I had the Stage One done not because of speed/performance but because of the cooler/smoother way the engine will run...

Do whatever you think is best for you and your bike!!

Ride Safe and Good Luck!

I had the NRHS 1250 kit put on my 883 and it had a lot more power but it also had a bigger thirst for oil. Like a quart every 500 miles. Others with 04 and up Sportsters have had the same trouble with their bikes after using the NRHS kit so if you do decide to do it I would avoid NRHS.

I wonder about that myself, It's about 14 to 15 hundred for the conversion kit. I talked to one of the harley dealers mach. and he told me (it is worth it). I know you can get the parts cheaper than that, but this is not aftermarket junk. And yes I do know that some aftermarket parts are better than harley, but would rather have original parts. My 2007 883 runs like a bear, it's not dead stock, screamin eagle hiflo AC, V.Hs. shortshots, with a fuepak, they came the lowest gears of all there bikes, If I hit 2nd gear hard it will come off the ground. The bike seems to run rich, you can smell it, the plugs are dark grey, and yes it leaves sh#t all over the back sprocket and rim, but it runs good. I was told to leave it alone. My only few isue's are it tend's to drink fuel, and it tops out at 100 MPH. If I wanted to go faster than that I'd get out the rice rocket. I'm gonna try to find someone who put in that 1200 kit to see how much difference it makes. ALWAYS KEEP IT IN THE WIND....................
