Will this Speedometer fit on a 1995 Sportster?

Unfortunately, I don't have the original speedometer. The guy I got the bike from can't find it.
I am going to try to make this one work as I believe I have the correct speedo; it is the wiring that is confusing me and until I get a wiring diagram or the service manual I ordered I am stuck.

Have you tried calling your local dealer to get the reference of the original part ? they should be able to give you both US and HD international references. This will double your chances of getting a speedo cos HDI speedos are basically the same as US market models, but with a second smaller kph speed indication inside the main mph reading (no problem for reading, mph is bigger by far).
This allows you to look at Canada, Australia, UK as well as US for a second-hand part.
If you don't trust your local dealer, at least find an indy who will be able to give you directions and *might even* have an old speedo lying around that he removed from a bike he was customising for a customer (mini-speedos rule, apparently...).
Call around ! it's free isn't it ?

I have a 95 Hugger and just installed a 2000 speedo. The 95 was wired with ring terminals and the 2000 speedo has a small 12 pin plug. Both speedos use 8 wires so that was not a problem. My speed and odometer are both off. On a 46 mile trip I registered 34 miles and the amount the speed is off is a varied amount (needle 5 mph slow at 35 mph and 8mph at 50.)
I think its possible that the standard bike and hugger have different speedos. My reasoning is both readings are wrong and the speed variance increases as my speed increases. It appears if I increased the size of the rear tire this would correct the problem. I did not change the sensor and thats why I think the speedos are different between the Hugger and Standard bike. My old speedo was dead on but got the all black disease.
So I believe your switch would work -- all you need is a electrical diagram of the bike the speedo came off of. You also need the little plug, a clear plastic piece that the plug fits into and 8 tiny pins. Good Luck

It could be a different gear ratio that's throwing you off. 883s and 1200s have different size drive sprockets and the speedo might not be calibrated properly for your bike.
