Rear Tire Removal

Rear Tire Removal
I have a 2001 XL1200C from which I have removed the rear tire (original size). The tire was difficult to slip off due to the brake caliper being in the way. Removing the caliper before taking the wheel off doesn't seem to be an option. Does anyone have some tips to make removing/ re-installing the wheel easier?

It is like a puzzle. But taking the pads out and removing the caliper makes it a bit easier but you can do it without all that, but it's like a puzzle that's all really. BTW the caliper will slide a bit once the pads are out. Also This is a good time to inspect all that is brakes and clean the area up too.
