I am thinking of getting the screaming eagle stage 1 AC. I read that its street legal with the stock exhaust. Uhh ok, I thought the whole idea was to get more air in to increase HP and torque, and that requires better flowing exhaust. I read that the ECM needs recalibration. I have also read that the stock ECM will learn to compensate for more air in. I know Harley wants to sell me the SERT instead of remapping. Just what exactly is the truth? Please respond if you know what the real truth is. Thanks in advance
I have heard.... as well as read (American Iron) that the stock ecu will compensate for changes in both the intake as well as exhaust....
it will bring the A/F ratio back to the stock ratio....
Some have installed pipes, high flow ac & Xieds and claim that everything is AOK....
Now if you go to the Electrical/ Ignition / Tuner/ ECM/ Fuel Injection section this has been discussed until it's not even funny anymore....
as tumbleweed883 stated.... there are more opinions on this subject then there are bikes on the road!
Given that you've been a forum member for over a year and have over 1,000 posts,
How can you possibly have missed seeing this same question asked and answered at least 100 times?
LOL hadnt really paid much attention to those posts, but i went to read Terrys sticky on it and now im getting the picture. The remap is to keep the factory lean condition mandated by the EPA. IF i wanted that then i wouldnt add the SE A/C. The SERT is the most expensive but also the best option for any AC/Exhaust upgrades, along with dyno tuning. I get it now. So why bother with the other options like the fuelpack or the Powercommanders? Less expensive but not as good as the SERT?
