Go with the Sporty. Put on a touring seat and some forward controls if it's not already equipped with them and you should be fine. If you don't like it you could always sell it and get probably what you paid for it. If you don't like the Honda, chances are it will be worth half of what you pay for it if even if you put only another 1000 miles on it.
The Honda is a good bike. So is the Sporty. The Sporty is a Harley, American made, has TONS of parts available, and you can modify it anyway you like.
I used to ride metric bikes and understand how well made and reliable they are. But when I get off my Harley after a good ride, I think "why ride anything else" If I had to have a second bike, it would be another Harley.

if you want basically a maintenance free machine that rides smoother and shaft drive, go with the honda. one draw back on the honda is a very limited performance parts availability. the vtx 1800 fairs better. the hd has a world of mods to offer to you. the honda is a tad bit more advanced than the hd. i got rid of mine due to small annoying things that go wrong with their electronics that require expensive replacement parts due to the fact they intergrated them in a single package. the other reason is i like simplicity such as gravity fed carbs and not fuel pump fed carbs. hd is now fuel pumps anyway now so i guess it doesn't make a differance. the hd is easier to work on also when it comes time.
