Not to burst your bubble, but your post isn't really clear. If your shooting for Stage 1, putting a K&N filter in the stock A/C can won't get you the increased flow required. Depending on the year of your bike, you'll also require a re-jet or a tuner/remap of some sort.

Yep, the K&N won't make a difference. You'll need the stage one SE a/c which takes the back out off of the stock a/c. Remapping with your stock a/c won't do much if anything.

The air filter will help and I'm sure if you look at the air cleaner housing you probably can add a few extra holes somewhere to the backing plate the will help with the amount of air you can get to the engine, your choice of mufflers is a good one as it will retain the stock cross over pipe and therefore not wipe out the bottom end torque.

Ok not to hijack but Im in the same boat as Murphy. I got my V&H shortshots and fuelpak already and my Iron is going in for first service on friday. The parts dude said I'm just getting the air cleaner. Its around $185 CAD. So is there any gain to adding just the a/c or is the whole kit necessary??

If you're getting the SE Stage 1 air cleaner (which for $185CAD, I'm assuming that's what you're getting) and guessing they'll be doing the Stage 1 download, it will open your bike up. Which will run better.

Well if you aren't sure, ask them to see the kit prior to installation. This is what it should look like.
