Default big exhaust+high flow intake=?

2013 sportster 72 1200 completely stock.

looking for more power like, everyone else. This topic has for sure been covered over and over but I need clarification-

If I increase flow through filter to exhaust, this will make more power but effect the powerband. These engines seem to like grunting it out, making the power down low. what exhaust is going to keep that power gain mid to low? i dig the Powertune exhaust by S&S and may get one of their filter kits too.

will i need a power tuner of some kind? or are those rip offs?

thanks

Your motor puts its most power down at 3500 rpm. Thats right at 50mph in 3rd gear.

If down low to you is less than that, you aint even woke it up yet.

Let me ask you this... (I'm totally new to Harleys - Just upgraded to a 05 Sportster 883). If I go with more flow at the airbox, will that require excessive tuning, or should it just run with more power / breathing room. I have always ridden / worked on vintage bikes and (for instance) the Honda 750's and Kaws always ran a LOT better with the dead space in the air box as opposed to velocity stacks or pods. I'm assuming the same with this bike, but the motor looks like an alien spacecraft to me so far. Any wisdom is greatly appreciated - I haven't developed a non metric network yet... Thx

It depends on how much more power you want. It's a 1200cc motor which has plenty of power for me. If so you need to go to a 1250 upgrade, filter, pipes, dyno and tuner. If you just want it to perform and be more responsive then go with new pipes and filter. But if I'm reading you right then you probably want to get a proper tuner and dyno. I just have an open air filter and pipes with x14ieds and I'm happy. My bike is plenty fast and responsive to a twist of the throttle. However I would like to get it properly tuned someday.

To maximize power, a two into one exhaust, a free flowing A/C that does not put hot oily air into the air cleaner and a full tuner, like the Power Vision or TTS.

After that, you are looking at opening up the engine to get anymore power.

There are a lot of options on the 2-1 exhaust. Looks, clearance in cornering, sound may all play a role in what you will want in exhaust, in addition to maximized performance. I ended up building my own...see vid below- but there are plenty to choose from if you're not wanting to build your own. Check out youtube and your local bike night to see/hear what you might want. Too many guys end up buying several different exhausts before they find the "right" one for themselves.

edited to add...Opening up the air and exhaust, you will need a tuner, especially to maximize power...below is a link with an objective overview (in the first few posts) of the popular options available.
