Ok.. here whats going on.. the other day I noticed that I had a fuel leak from my pep-**** so I decided to pull the tank this weekend and check the fuel filter on it while I was working on it.. (Because the last time I rode it stalled on me twice in less then a mile.. ) so I pulled the tank.. pulled the pep-**** and there it was.. nice gray flakes clogging the filter... so I decided to take the fuel and drain it into a gas can.. so I did and all in the fuel are these flakes.. cleaned out the tank as much as I could with the gas.. but im concerned how often am I going to have to do this?

I talked to my dad who has had bikes all his life and now has a 2000 Fatboy and he said that as far as he could tell it was the rubber lining on the inside of the tank that was coming off..

Any suggestions of what I should do?

The tank cleaner is part of the kit. You'll find plenty of info on the process once you Google it.

 

Having dealt with hundreds of rusted tanks, if it were mine, I'd simply replace it. As others wrote, you can cream it and lock the rust down. It's hit or miss however, so your best bet would be to take to a place and have them handle it for you. They'll blast the rust out, then seal it.

 

Juat put some nuts bults in side and shake it will remove most of the rust then start the sealer you can do it It's not hard Good luck

 

There is an old technique, I have seen ppl putting metal ***** in the tank and shake it like an African goard shaker lol.

That means you lost your ***** in the tank. Has something to do with the peppy-****...

 

Instead of the *****, use a length of medium gauge chain (whatever will fit inside the filler hole). Keep one end anchored outside the tank so you can fish the entire thing out when you're done shakin' it.

I'm going to have to deal with the "loose stuff" in my empty tank later next week (it's dry inside by now). I figure I'll hook up a powerful vacuum hose to the tank filler and just shake it around as best I can. Maybe even snake a length of flexible hose (taped onto the fatter vacuum hose) down in there until the noise from inside the tank stops.

FYI, Kreem is messy and a PITA. It works, but... I would only recommend it for much older tanks or brand new uncoated aftermarket tanks. Unless you have scaly rust inside your tank, don't worry about it. That's what the screen on the petcock is supposed to take care of.
