Default H-D Tachometer installation?

Hi All,
I see alot of HD Tachometers on Ebay for Sportsters and was thinking of getting one. Has anyone here installed one on their Sportster, and Is it hard to wire the thing or does it just plug in to an existing female plug (Pigtail). Thanks for any help in Advance.

Default HD matching Tach

I have a 2009 Sportster 1200C and purchased the mini Tach - 68953-04. This tach exactly matches the stock speedo. I am doing the installation myself. I have the power and ground wired, but where the heck do you connect the Pink Signal wire? The instruction manual references the #3 cavity on the 39-B connector on the rear of the speedometer. My Speedo connector does not have a #3 cavity, nor can I find a Pink wire anywhere in the wiring harness. I have the service manual and the wiring diagram also does not show a pink wire anywhere.

I see the Serial Data wire (LGN/V) going to the tach in the service manual wiring diagram, but I don’t think this Mini Tach works off serial data.

So to what wire do I connect the pink signal wire for the tach?

Smile tach

I installed one on my08 1200C, bought it all from the stealer. I had to run a wire to the fuse box that pluged in the back of the block and install a fuse. I don't remember where the pink went, but the instructions are bad, I called HD and they gave me the info. It is in the instructions but it's hard to get it with their meanings of items. Hope you know what I mean. Call them and you will get it to work. Now with mine working I love it. Good luck. Ride safe.

Here is a pic of the one i was looking to buy.
I can't see the end of the wires in the picture, so i don't know if they are open or have a connector plug. My friend had the same Tach on his 03 XL1200C.

Default Got it installed

Tachometer Kit is HD 68953-04
Okay, sometimes I can be a real Dumb*ss. I talked with the service dept at my local HD dealership. The guy said the pink wire does connect to the back of the speedometer. So I pulled the Speedo out again and looked closer. There was in fact an empty #3 cavity in the connector. (it had a red plug in it). You have to remove the blue locking pin from the side of the connector and pull out the red dummy plug. The pink wire on the Tach kit has a small pin (female) on the wire end. Insert this into the #3 cavity and replace the blue locking pin in the connector. The feed to the Tach actually comes out of the Speedo on the #3 pin. This is NOT shown on the wiring diagram in the service manual! The 39B connector does not even show a #3 pin.

All hooked up and Tach is working great now.
