Default No Heat Shields - Anyone?

Hello Everyone,

I did a couple of searches for having the exhaust pipes with no headshields, heat wraps and etc. and I did not find any results.

The reason, I was asking is because I was cleaning my bike and I saw the bare pipe and it has this beautiful copper look, similar to what Buell bikes have, I guess since they dont have heatshields.

Do any of you run the pipes with no heat shields?

I ran without them for a few days while they were getting powder coated...ended up burning a hole on my work pants at a red light!

its a little off subject... but of course my peterbilt dont have heat shelds on my stacks. i put a new set of straight 8in stack extensions on about a year ago, and a first they had a great chrome finish then went to the copper color your talkin about but now they are the ugliest shade of blue yellow copper and all kinds of other crap ive ever seen. you might think of havin the heat shields dipped in copper. most chrome shops have a copper dip bc of the chorme process. i dont know how much it would cost but it would prob look better in the long run.

That copper color you see on the Buells is actually what stainless looks like after it's been run for awhile. How do I know? because my Suzuki has a Yoshimura full stainless system and that's what it does. That copper coloring can be polished out but it's usually more trouble than it's worth. Also if you do polish it out make sure not to leave any hand or finger prints on it because they're damn near impossible to get out once they cook on.Your stock head pipes are most likely chrome plated and will be a combination of chrome copper brown and blue. Not really that attractive which is one of the reasons they put heat shields on them in the first place. They can also be polished out but you won't get rid of most of the color.

No heat shields on my 1200C. No burnt pant legs yet. The passenger peg is a little uncomfortable though.

Bradnailer,

On your signature picture, it looks as if you have your pipes wrapped, do you have any pics of your stock pipes with no wrap?
