Default 883 EFI TO 1200 Conversion

OK..So I finally decided NOT to go for the BT and convert my 883 to a 1200
Various reasons..Cost / Insurance / and I just my Sportster.

I'm on the verge of my 5000mi service and I also wanted to complete my Stage 1 with a AC and remap or fule pac etc.

How much if any of those would be duplicated in a conversion ?
I assume they would need to remap with a conversion ??????

I read some of the many posts on conversions but if you have anything to suggest or advise on what not to do etc, PLEASE DO !!!

I'm not looking to create a ROCKET just a bike with some added oomph that may help it at Highway Speeds etc. once I get the POWER down I will work on the suspension etc.

I'd go with the 1200 conversion.....Like the guy said about a bigger amp for your music, "you can always turn it down."

there are basicly two ways to convert.

A: simply buy conversion cylingers and pistons that use your existing heads. All you need is gasket set and typical handtools and little experience. This is by far the best bang for the buck and only takes typical guy 5-6 hours.....To save even more money have existing cylinders bored to fit new pistons....200-600 bucks

B: full conversion where you also use the above but include 1200 heads and 1200 pistons....This conversion is NOT necessary unless you plan even more mods for even more HP later.

Any 883/1200/1250 conversions after 2007 will require remap/reflash by HD or the installation of a fueler like the powercommander or others.

Best bang for the buck is option A above and a PCIII or PCV from Jamie at fuelmoto with preinstalled map. Any experienced engine builder will tell you stock 883 heads do VERY well on the street when used with 1200 jugs and proper conversion pistons. If you buy just the conversion pistons and gasket, then have your jugs bored and add a PCIII from Jamie you can do it all for as little as 500 bucks

Hey, karaokeman

Take a look at my gameroom. It has a pro level karaoke system. 2400 watts of Peavey CS800S amps, SP2G's and two 24" SP118 subs all controlled by a Peavey 16FX mixer thru 822ABBE and Q231 Peavey EQ. Music and videos are qued and played off two external drives thru HP laptop.

The system rocks!

I thought the MOCO changed that for '07 & up where you couldn't have the stock cylinders bored because the sidewall was already too thin. I believe you have to buy them now & no boring of the old.

Correct, but that change applies to 09up.

That is very possible and it's something i would check before i went that route. Thanks for the caution.

I'm gearing up for the convert myself and never considered reboring because I'm going with 1250 kit from nrhs and their head work plus n4 cams. I would have done homework on the rebore, tho.

Still, even if he is forced to buy new 1200 jugs, he will need the proper conversion pistons and gasket set and fueler. That said, he's looking at 750 max.

If going thru your dealer , the 1200 conversion will come with the AC and will need a remap , unless your going with the heavy breather, then you can sell the AC that comes with the 1200 kit..

Speaking of a Heavy Breather, I got a new one I'll sell for 200 bucks. It's a killer A/C and I run it on my Road King, but I replaced it on my sporty with a hand made skull A/C.
