I recently got some Redline leather overpants.
They zip all the way down to below the knees and are velcro from there.
They were a little long, so I laid them out and cut a few inches off the bottom with no problem.
Only ridden them once in the rain and after about half an hour I got wet.
I'm in VA so it's only in the 60s here. But I plan to ride through the winter.
I have rain gear too which I can wear over my leather for cold and wet protection.

If you don't want to spring for motorcycle overpants, try jogging suit pants. I have a pair of windbreaker-style lined Addidas jogging pants that fit loosely. I slip them over my regular pants or jeans and am warm and dry. Not as good as motorcycle designed overpants but cheap and effective. Long underwear is good too but ya gotta keep it on when you get to your destination.

Points taken, though I'd think about planning a ride better than being out in a slush storm in the first place.

I meant to ask why the original poster had ruled chaps out with no explanation. They still work great for me, and we both live in about the same environments, you and I.

Damn, we have some real men in here! 37 degrees, 27 degrees?!?

I went riding this morning at 60 degrees and was trying to warm my *** up when I got home. I must admit, I just had t-shirt under my jacket but I don't think I could ride in anything below 40 degrees. If I want to freeze my *** off, I'll just go hunting.

Rule of thumb is, it always feels 15* colder riding on your bike than the actual temperature.

For example... if its 50* out, you'll feel 35* when you ride.

I HATE the cold... but I ride til the snow and ice start. Just bundle up!

My jacket gloves & helmet do a great job. I even had boot straps on my pant legs. It was my legs that were cold. I'm not about to let a frosty helmet shield keep my bike in the garage...so I need to get some better gear. I have Carhartt bibs that I will try for now but they're bulky.

Is there anything other than chaps? Has anyone tried the pull over leather pants?

Thanks in advance.
Heated gear, does not get bulking and keep you toasty warm for as long as you ride - http://shop.techncyclegear.com/Warm-...d-Gear_c50.htm

I want one of these. I saw them at Sprockets in Richmond VA. Very well made.

I have firstgear overpants and they are impressively warm. I'm certain the one-piece suit is even better.

I picked up a tourmaster heated jacket-liner: its awesome.

aerostitch makes some excellent overpants. I got the AD1 on sale 2 yrs ago - Really like them - they block the wind better than Carharts, are totally waterproof. I wear them over my dress slacks riding to work.

I don't ride much under 40 degrees though.

Thanks for all the info. The Firstgear one piece suit sounds like it will work. I rode again today a few hours later and it had warmed up to the 50's but about an hour in to the ride it began to rain. I was wearing my Carhartt bibs and the pipe melted my pant leg (first time this has happened to me)...it was surprisingly hot very fast. The pipes on the bike I was on suck anyway.

I plan on changing those but I definitely need to get something else to wear.

I didn't mean to make it seem like I'm anti-chaps. I just feel like I need something more. I will try better layers tomorrow & until I get better overpants or the one piece deal.

A couple of years ago, I rode my bike in to work in 18 degree temps. I had on a t-shirt, thermal, sweatshirt and leather jacket, full face helmet and baclava and long johns under jeans. I also had on work boots and 2 pairs of socks. I also had on a QD full sized weenie shield.

I decided to take the interstate instead of the backroads. I figured I could cut down the trip time by a bit. And how much colder could it feel at 65 mph vs 50 mph??

Should've seen the looks on the faces of the cagers on the slab when I went by!! BTW the afternoon highs were forecast to be in the 40s or I wouldn't have ridden that morning. My hands got quite cold and I doubt there's anything you can do to keep them warm when the temps are in the teens.
