This swap can still be done in the $500 range, just depends what your hoping to get out of it. There are several kits with new cylinders, dished pistons, rings and gaskets for $450 - $600. Keep your heads as is and you still gain a lot. Once you add in head work, cams, exhaust then your easy over $1,000. Like I said, just depends what you want.
If you have a 2003 or older, Do it yourself, learn about your bike. Get your cylinders bored, by the dished pistons and a top end gasket kit and your good to go.
If yours is 2004 and newer, I think you will need the new cylinders.

Can anyone explain to me what the difference between the 1200 conversion and the 1250 NHRS conversion is besides the extra 50cc? I would like to upgrade my Iron to get a bit more power out of it, but I don't want to buy the 1200 upgrade just to find out that I want the 1250 instead.

From what I understand there is maybe some boring and porting involved??? I am not an engineer or a mechanic so I really have no idea about the what or why involved here.

I've been browsing around bore-up kits for a while now. I'm not doing it anytime soon so I have lots of time to shop around. From what I've seen there are a couple advantages to going with the NRHS 1250 kit. I have only looked at it on DK Customs, but from their site it's all laid out.

Pro's:
1. +50cc
2. All gaskets (including heads and such for $50 more)
3. Only $699 (not including head gaskets)
4. Can get the pistons pre-gapped and installed in the heads with lube
5. Which kit to get for your bike is very simplified

Oh and it is very clear that there is no porting or boring of anything. It's all bolt on.

OP has choices.
My votes:
1) Sell the 883 buy a 1200 (even used) … this may be most effective $ wise.
2) Install the 1275 kit....this may be the most fun.

I'm running a Hammer Performance 1275 kit and it is amazing. The response and the power band fits my driving style perfectly. Really enjoy my sportster now!

Default 2011 sportster problem

i have a 2011 sportster xl883n that i converted to S&S 1200 kit. I also have the vance and hines short shots exhaust, arlens ness naked monster sucker, and fuel pak fp3. im having an issue when i ride where the bike doesnt want to go anywhere unless i full throttle it and its bouncing off reff limiter until i get to certain speed then it is a little better but still isnt 100%. i got a tune from vance and hines as well and still didnt help. i went through advanced settings in fuel pak and still nothing it got a little better when i did thedecel pop but not fixing the issue. I dont know if its fuel to air ratio or what im just lost now.

Just an opinion, ditch the FP3 and get Power Vision or Mastertune....

I'm just not a fan of the FP3, but to each his/her own...

The FP3 is as good as any other tuner. Have you run the auto tune on top of the canned V&H tune?

A good auto tune will do wonders.

i upgraded my 883 with the Hammer 1250 kit and Cobra 909 pipes and the FP3 auto tune worked great
