Default Battery choice for Sportster

My battery finally kicked the bucket. I asked several bikers here about a good place to get one and one rider mentioned to get a Gell Cell battery. Have any of you ever heard of it? Is it worht it? He says it's a little more than the standard Acid Cell battery but lasts longer. He says he's has his for 5 years now. Any info on the Gel Cell battery would be greatly appreciated.

The factory H-D AGM batteries are better than gel batteries in most applications. I've found the factory battery to be about the best replacement - they fit right, have plenty of cranking power, and last a long time. I've had a gel battery that was good, also, so that's not a bad choice. What is a bad choice are the old wet cell batteries you add acid to. They don't hold up well to vibration, they leak acid, and they don't last very long.

+1 If you want to save some bucks, than do a search on Deka batterys. I am pretty sure thats the company who makes the HD batterys.

X2 on Deka being the HD maker. You can get them here:

http://www.batteryservice.com/harley-batteries.aspx

Once you know the correct model number, search eBay as well. You can often find them even cheaper on there.

+1 EXCEPT, they don't list one that fits an 04 and up Sporty.

I say go with the HD AGM battery.

Drag Specialties batteries are great and they are a sealed type battery like the original Harley battery.

The HD OE is good. Do you use a battery tender ? It's a great investment.

Thanks for all of the advice. I will be going with the HD OE, I'm starting to go through withdrawls, I need the bike running again. I don't have a battery tender yet, I do plan to get one. Any personal thoughts about any good ones out there? Again, thanks to everyone for responding.

THE ""Battery Tender""

http://batterytender.com/motorcycle/...-at-0-75a.html

hard wire it and zip the lead off the frame (mine is just in front of the seat), you have to look to find it. does everything well and small enough to take on a trip.
