Default New rider choosing a bike

Just looking for advice. I really like the 48 but I am 6'3" 214 just curious if you think getting a 48 is a bad choice. Just went through the learn the ride course and received my endorsement. For me I like the feel of the smaller and slimmer bike.

Thanks

Jabs

Really? Sign up with a dealer for demo rides and make a decision on what feels right to you. Why would you want other people to make your choices for you?

Asking others is just going to get you various answers based on what they think. What you think is the most important.

One thing about a Harley is you can make fit you. Tons of options you can decide on. Ride then decide.

And congrats!

I see you're form MN. Slide on down to Twin Cities Harley in Lakeville and ask for Dr. Dave Borre. He will set you up.

Nothing can replace actual test riding for research, but you might go to this site:

http://cycle-ergo.com/

...and select the bike you want, then input your inseam, etc, and see the result. Try that with several different brands in order to establish a baseline.

I want a Sportster, but the above site indicates that the current configuration of Sportsters will be uncomfortable. So I'm researching changes I can make to see if that helps. All this before I buy.

Good luck.

My advice, is to tell yourself you're not going to buy a bike right away. You feel good on a Sportster, but force yourself to sample bigger bikes as well. And Victory, just to say you did.

Commuter or cruising? Decide what you're most likely to use the bike for, and buy accordingly.

Just for cruising around town. Not looking to drive in rush hour bad enough in a car. I really need to work on my skills and feel more comfortable on a smaller bike right now.

The Sportster is the prefect bike of weight and power. It's also the most customizable bike HD makes. You just have to ignore all the others "HD OWNERS ONLY" that find a Sporty a second class bike. HD wouldn't be around today if not for the iconic Sportster. It's not their best selling bike without reason. The difference dimensionally from a Sportster to a Dyna isn't that much. You can accomadate your size with aftermarket mods with realtive ease and less expense. If you want a freaking boat then look at Touring models.

I'm 6'3 225 and rock a sportster like its cool. Its not my only bike, but it's my favorite to ride. I can throw it around better than some sport bikes.
