Modifying stock Sportster Mufflers?

My wifes got a 2010 Iron 883 that sounds like a freakin lawn mower. The baffles on the stock mufflers are not removable so I was wondering if there is anything I can do to give them a little sound for now until I get some slip-ons or pipes for her?

Thanks in advance, JB

I had an 04 1200C sporty
Believe me there is not much you can do to make it sound better. Save your $$$ and get slip ons

I cut the weld out from the end pulled out the baffles, what a difference. She loves
it. Has a great rumble. No cost

If you have air tools with a deburring tool you can cut the weld out (at the back of the muffler and the baffle will come right out) in about ten minutes. You can also get a 1 1/2" holesaw (less than $5 at Lowes) and cut the weld this way. The 1 1/2" hole saw fits over the extended lip of the baffle and grinds the weld off.

You maintain the crossover pipe, and the mufflers still say certified to less than __db.

works great and lasts a long time

You can also use a hole saw that fits inside the baffle and cut the front end out. It deepens the tone without getting obnoxious.

the hole saw idea is the best i have used it myself

Punch a hole in them and she'll sound like a VW farting.....at least those i know who did this and I've heard them.....
With all the chit now on noise, and laws being passed in different places, I'd save the stockers and maybe someday use them to pass a test if needed, then go home and put the slippers back on ....

buy some slip-ons and save the stock pipes you never know she might not like the sound of the new pipes and want to go back to the quite ones if she does like the new pipes you can sell the stock pipes and recover some of your money.

I took off the muffler, grabbed a large metal 1 inch square bar and rammed it threw the muffler. Didn't cost a penny. Opened the muff up a bit, but not too much. The muffler is basically still intact the way it was before, its just louder. Heres a pic of the inside of the muffler. You can see the shape of the bar I used pretty plainly, and the bottom picture is what fell out the other end. Simple, free and easy. It achieved the results your after.
