09 Sportster 1200

I replaced the trip meter button because it wasnt working, Now that works, but my speedometer doesn't, it doesnt even do a system check when I start the bike (go from zero to 120 and back). If I hold the trip meter button before turning on the bike to pull codes up the needle will got from zero to 120 and back. Im confused!!!! Help!!!

The only other thing I did was spray some WD40 on the speedometer to help it slide back into the housing easier.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, I dont want to pay harley $95/hr to look at at......

Thanks

Glad this thread popped up. Been having this problem on my 2012 too for a while. At first the speedo was erratic now it hardly works at all and when it does it's not accurate anyway. Odometer not logging miles properly. Turn signals not self cancelling. Occasionally have to give it gas at stops to stop idle from being to low. Has a new VSS, cleaned every sensor I could find, cleaned each fuse and applied dielectric grease, cleaned each ground connection, ran without the tuner and no changes. Needed a battery anyway so got a new one. Pull diagnostics and speedo does full sweep like its suppose to.

Any ideas?

I’m having a similar issue but my odometer works fine but my needle will drop to 0 while I’m riding and then go back up again randomly. I have checked the connections and wires but haven’t found anything wrong. I’m new to motorcycles so any advise is great! Thanks in advance
