Yeah, so the original 12 inch will make my hands 13 inch and the 14 one will make it 15? So If I get the 12 and want higher, I can fix a 3 inch riser so that it will become 15 inch arm height like the 14 right?

Just wondering if I do that will I spoil the look.

Yes, your calculations are correct! Of course, if you put taller risers you will have to change cables, eventually.

Yeah, so it'll be safer to get longer cables? Is it not advisable to get cables that are too long for your handlebars?

And do you think it'll still look good if I get a 12 inch apes with 3 inch risers?

As long as you route them properly an extra 2 inches won't matter.

I'm about to change to some bars with 8" of rise and I only plan on changing the brake cable. So technically the stock cables are a few inches longer than they need to be...not hurting anything.

Just make sure they aren't somewhere they could rub or get caught on something.

Beauty is a matter of individual perception...in my opinion it depends on a lot of other variables whether or not that setup would look good...but it's ultimately you riding it.

I plan on putting the road 6 customs 8" mini apes on my 48 and was thinking all I'd need was a new brake cable as well. Hoping this is correct.

Not at all, that's actually what I have. No need for forwards unless you're tall and need them.

Default Mini Apes

Reading on this site plus seen some videos on-line about swapping out the handlebars for apes: the Bitwell 8" Chumps work without buying new cables, stock wiring is okay also. The metal brake line needs bent a little and just makes it.'
I rode a 48 with the H-D mini apes, were okay for me, I'm 5'8". I would rather have them a little lower like the Chumps.
Check the net for the videos, will be a big help.
