Default 2007 883R Dead

My roommates 2007 883R is being complicated.

First symptom was it would click then show signs of a dead battery after filling the tank at a gas station. After a few minutes, it started like normal and survived the trip home with no issue. Later in the day, it clicked then was dead again. He assumed it was his fuelpak, so he pulled it out and the bike started normally. Then a day later, same problem, clicks but won't turn over, and no power.

When he gets back I'm going to see if he wants to pull out the battery and use my tender. Otherwise, I have no ideas.

Anyone?

I'd be checking the battery. It's an '07 bike, the battery is 4 years old now, and who knows how long it was on the shelf at the factory. It's an easy check for any autoparts store and usually free too.

I'd bet heavy on the battery being bad.
Batteries may go 5+ years in a cold climate where they spend 1/2 the year on a Tender, but in a hot summer climate on a bike that's ridden daily, even the best batteries seldom last more than 2 years.

While you have the battery out check the + cable where it terminates on the other end. My 2000 and a couple others I've heard about had a cable get weak at the crimp from the angle and vibration.

I jumped his bike with mine with his battery pulled out and it worked. But once we put the battery back in it was no joy. For a minute I couldn't figure out why, but then realized the battery obviously had a bad connection.

Tightened up his negative terminal and it's good to go.

Interesting...mine is still OEM and I use a battery tender daily. I ride about 11k per season. I think I will have to start knocking on wood more often for luck!
