My bike acts like its choking or something. Only happens in idle or low rpms though. when I started it up a little while ago it would run for a minute then start to choke and kill over. once it dies I hear the fuel pump like when ya first turn the key. At first I thought rain got to the gas some how or air cleaner was wet but now I don't know what to think?
I'm up for my 5K maintenance so I'll probably take her in to the dealership, but I wanna figure it out first.
Plus while they got it I'll probably have em put new cams in, but haven't made up my mind
Doesn't sound like the pump if he can hear it running. You should only hear that when the ignition is turned on. That makes it sound like it's losing its prime. Check your fuel lines for a leak.
I have a manual....somewhere around here. And nothing has been done to the bike in a long time. what are DTCs?
DTCs are diagnostic trouble codes. They will read out on your speedo, there's a sticky here on how to check them. Basically, you hold the trip reset button on the back of the speedo in while you turn the ignition switch on and this will put the system into diagnostic mode. Check the sticky for specifics and it has code explanations. I would start there and see if you've got anything logged.
It's possible that there's a problem with the fuel pressure regulator, HD had a Tech Tip 328 I believe that addresses a problem with the regulator. I had the stealer comply with it on mine, back when it was still under warranty. Since you're going in for the 5K you might have the check the fuel pressure to see where it's at.
